Electronica – Parra For Cuva & TSOE Vol. 5.  In this episode I tender an heroic dose of Electronica for your listening pleasure and edification.  In particular, I feature two brand new electronica albums.  The first is Parra for Cuva’s Darwis.  The second is TSOE (The Sound of Electronica), Vol. 5.  In addition, I also feature the brand new Hospital Mixtape: S.P.Y release for your necessary Drum & Bass fix.

Parra for Cuva: Darwis

Parra for Cuva: Darwis

A darwis is a religious monk dedicating his entire existence to the advancement of faith and meditation. Although he believes in Allah, he can be described predominantly as a mystic. Refraining from any form of material wealth and even societal appreciation, holy enlightenment is his true aim. After finishing up their semester at University, Nicolas and Jonas or Parra for Cuva & Senoy decided to pack all their gear into their camper and go on a road-trip down to the eastern coast of Spain. The car filled with all kinds of gear, from synths to speakers, guitars, and percussions amongst other tools and toys, three creative weeks ensued, creating music with a view out to the sea. While taking everything in and doing daily trips, the two were able to create enough song ideas in three weeks to spent the rest of the year at home in the studio to finish all arrangements and mixes. Inspired by the Spanish way of life in a small and historically rich port town, a stark contrast to life Berlin, and soaking up diverse musical influences, the individual titles are highly personal and reflect on specific emotions or intimate experiences. During the arrangement of the title-song, the percussion track was accidentally dragged to infinity, which resulted in a trance inducing meditative sound that gave them the idea for the title. Watching turkish dervish dancers while listening should therefore enhance the listening experience. ‘Darw?’ by Parra for Cuva & Senoy comes out worldwide on limited cyan-coloured vinyl (including download code) & limited edition CD including a bonus track via flau records in Japan. All Tracks written and produced by Nicolas Demuth and Jonas Lechenmayr. Vocals on Track 9 by Cornelia Dahlgren. Vocal Mixing on Track 9 by Benedict Fischer. Mastering by Sven Friederichs. A&R: Gordon Gieseking, Malte Tarnow. Artwork by Niklas Freund. Layout & Typography by Gordon Gieseking.

055: Homemade Weapons & Red Army, Kenneth James Gibson

In this episode I feature brand new music from Homemade Weapons & Red Army, as well as Kenneth James Gibson.

In August of 2015 Homemade Weapons released the Clarion Call album, featuring 8 incredible tracks of Drum & Bass.  The title track from that release was featured in Episode 25 of the Mongoland Podcast, though the entire album was a worthy effort.  In February of this year this Seattle based producer released a 4 track EP which escaped my notice until now.  That oversight will be rectified shortly.  Meanwhile, on April 29 of this year, Homemade Weapons teamed up with Sacramento based producer, Red Army for the release of the Sleep Terror EP, another 4 track release.    Three of those four tracks are featured in the first set of this week’s episode.

ResidentAdvisor.net said of the Sleep Terror EP collaboration,

Where Homemade Weapons prefers his beats clean and contoured, Red Army likes to embellish them with big pools of reverb and dramatic chords. The result is drum & bass that feels perfectly sculpted and mysterious. They tease out exactly what can make drum & bass’s utilitarian repetition enticing instead of numbing, which is a good way to describe what Samurai Music does as a whole. Records like Sleep Terror likely won’t grab fans of Samurai’s more esoteric leanings, but it’s not meant for them—this is pure drum & bass of the highest order.

December’s Tracks Part 1: Progressive House, Deep House, D&B and more!

This week it’s another episode where I drop the split-show format in order to deliver the necessary wealth of music and get through December’s tracks in a scant two weeks.  So it’s two full hours of Mongo Mixes as I probe deeply into some Progressive House and Deep House tracks, as well as a good amount of Drum & Bass.  Pay particular attention to the Open System remixes from Rise and Fall out on Bonzai Progressive.  Progressive House, Deep House, D&B

008: Deep House Mix & Davey Hub DJ Set

After celebrating the best tracks of the first quarter, I thought it best to take a breather and dig deep to celebrate some of the overlooked tracks:  great tracks that got eliminated from past sets due to time restrictions.  So I call it a Deep House Mix, but there’s also Chill Out, Trance, Techno, Electro House and Tech House, in case anyone’s counting.

In the second hour, it’s Davey Hub from Grimsby, UK.  This is Davey’s second original appearance on the radio show, but his first on the podcast.  He’s been coming out with some great new tunes lately, so be sure to check out his page on Soundcloud. (more…)
