068: Epic Intensity & Kompakt Total 16

I’m calling this set Epic Intensity because, this set truly kicked my own ass as I was broadcasting it.  Speaking of which, this version is straight music, with no talking over by me.  I’ll probably post an addendum to this which will be the same set but with my voice-over.

The episode also nominally features several new releases, the most notable of which is Kompakt: Total 16.

In The Mix 002 – Progressive Sessions

In this episode my featured release is Bonzai Progressive’s In The Mix 002 – Progressive Sessions.  This second installment in the series is curated and mixed by the enigmatic Australian DJ/Producer, Audio Noir.

[In The Mix 002] takes us deeper into the progressive abyss with mind bending sounds and smooth melodies on top of infectious grooves that dig deep into your soul. A super tight mix, this one stays the course with some powerful tracks and remixes from the likes of Ruslan Vashkevich, Rise and Fall, Dark Soul Project & Mathov, Nico Parisi, Prelude, Luciano Delgado, Diyo, Tommi Oskari, Manu Riga, Euphoric Traveller, Sylvering, AK/DK and Airwave.

055: Homemade Weapons & Red Army, Kenneth James Gibson

In this episode I feature brand new music from Homemade Weapons & Red Army, as well as Kenneth James Gibson.

In August of 2015 Homemade Weapons released the Clarion Call album, featuring 8 incredible tracks of Drum & Bass.  The title track from that release was featured in Episode 25 of the Mongoland Podcast, though the entire album was a worthy effort.  In February of this year this Seattle based producer released a 4 track EP which escaped my notice until now.  That oversight will be rectified shortly.  Meanwhile, on April 29 of this year, Homemade Weapons teamed up with Sacramento based producer, Red Army for the release of the Sleep Terror EP, another 4 track release.    Three of those four tracks are featured in the first set of this week’s episode.

ResidentAdvisor.net said of the Sleep Terror EP collaboration,

Where Homemade Weapons prefers his beats clean and contoured, Red Army likes to embellish them with big pools of reverb and dramatic chords. The result is drum & bass that feels perfectly sculpted and mysterious. They tease out exactly what can make drum & bass’s utilitarian repetition enticing instead of numbing, which is a good way to describe what Samurai Music does as a whole. Records like Sleep Terror likely won’t grab fans of Samurai’s more esoteric leanings, but it’s not meant for them—this is pure drum & bass of the highest order.

Maduk, Luc Angenehm, Cameron Thias, & Anna

In this episode dominated by Techno and Deep House, I feature brand new music from Maduk, Luc Angenehm, Cameron Thias & Anna.

Maduk, Luc Angenehm, Cameron Thias, & Anna

Despite the fact that the show itself is dominated by Techno and Deep House, the first set, which features two tracks by Maduk, is dominated by Drum & Bass.  The two Maduk tracks are from the new release, Never Give Up, which is out now on Hospital Records.

The second set features tracks by Luc Angenehm and Anna.  These are  the sole techno tracks in a set otherwise dominated by Deep House.

Three of the four Deep House tracks in this set are from two new excellent compilations out on City Life.  These are Elfenstaub Vol. 18 – Deep Electronic Journey Through Time & Space, and Zirkus Zirkus, Vol. 13 – Elektronische Tanzmusik.

In the third set I really go all out with the techno, and feature a great track called Zippo by Cameron Thias.  The track is actually composed significantly of the unmistakable sounds of a Zippo lighter.

In the fourth and final set, more tracks from Cameron Thias, Anna, and Luc Angenehm.  The set is evenly divided between Techno and Deep House, with a bit of Tech House tossed in for good measure.
